The Maldivian government officially asks the Indian government to repatriate the Indian soldiers in the Maldives.
The President’s Office said President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who was sworn in as president yesterday, made the request in a meeting held between him and India’s representative to his swearing in ceremony, Minister of Earth Sciences, Kiren Rijiju.
While campaigning for the election, President Muizzu had pledged that he would put in the request to the Indian government to repatriate the soldiers the day he is sworn into office. Repatriating Indian soldiers is also amongst one of his main goals he wishes to achieve within the first 100 days of his presidency.
During his campaigns, he maintained that the soldiers will be repatriated to India peacefully, within diplomatic talks.
Since President Muizzu won the election with promises of repatriating the Indian military personnel on Maldivian soil back to their country, he mentioned this in the first address to the nation after being sworn into office as well.
