Three food establishments closed for unsanitary practices

The ministry stated that these establishments could resume service once they make the necessary repairs, notify the ministry, and pass a subsequent inspection to ensure safety.

Three food establishments in Male' City have been closed due to unsanitary conditions.

The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) and the Health Protection Agency (HPA) have inspected six establishments in response to complaints about food safety and public health, three were shut down for poor hygiene and inadequate food safety measures.

Locations inspected include;

- Member Hotel in Maafannu Kafagasdhoshuge

- 1979 Shop

- Dhonmanik in Maafannu Huivani

- Cafe' Corner in Maafannu ​​Honey Suckle

- Takeaway food establishement 'The Cabin' in Maafannu Honey Suckle

- An unlicensed kitchen run at Machangolhi Honey Suckle

Following the inspection, the Ministry of Health issued closure notices to Member Hotel, The Cabin, and an unlicensed kitchen, requiring them to cease operations.

The ministry stated that these establishments could resume service once they make the necessary repairs, notify the ministry, and pass a subsequent inspection to ensure safety.

The inspections were conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, MFDA, HPA, and the Male' City Council.

Last week, the ministry issued notices to 10 locations in Hulhumale' for serving food prepared in unsanitary conditions. Eight of these establishments, located in Hulhumale' Phase II, were cited for poor public sanitation, including a lack of water and electricity.

Additionally, during an operation conducted with Maldives Immigration, two guesthouses in Male' where expatriates lived and provided food services were closed last Saturday.
