The individual arrested in connection with the engine oil attack on opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) activist Mariyam Zubair (Mandhi), has been released.
Mariyam, the mother of Galolhu South MP Meekail Naseem, was splashed with engine oil while riding her motorcycle home after participating in an MDP protest held on the night of March 17.
Ahmed Rishmah, 20, from Gaafu Alifu atoll Dhaandhoo, was arrested for allegedly driving the motorcycle carrying those responsible for the attack.
He was charged with assault, damage to property, and participating in a crime. He had previously admitted his involvement in court.
Rishmah was released after 15 days in custody, after he was produced in court to review his remand.
The court cited his full cooperation with the investigation and the minor nature of his role in the incident as reasons for his release. He was released under conditions.
Despite his release, Rishmah has a long standing criminal record involving physical altercations.
Police previously stated in court that he had shared information about the others involved in the attack. However, no further arrests have been made so far.
