President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has today chosen established writer and poet, Hussain Salahuddin to be posthumously awarded the National Award for service to Maldivian nationalism, a category being newly introduced this year.

President's Office said that this decision was reached after considering Salahuddin's notable contribution to advancing attitudes and ideologies in the fields of religion, tradition and the Dhivehi language - all pillars of nationalism. Salahuddin's role in expanding the vision of education in Maldives was also taken into account when reaching the decision, the Office elaborated.
His efforts in distributing knowledge accumulated from local scholars across the nation is also invaluable.
The President will award a shield of honour to the recipient of this highest recognition which is bestowed solely to those who have made invaluable contributions to the country's legacy.
The award will be presented during a special ceremony held on occasion of National Day tomorrow at 09:00 hrs in Dharubaaruge, Male' City.
During the ceremony, the National Award of Recognition will also be presented alongside the National Award of Honor which will be received by seven recipients this year, revealed the President's Office.
The Office added that one of the seven will be presented an award in memory of his longstanding service to the nation - another category added to the National Awards. This recipient is late Mohamed Thaufeeq of Henveyru Haajaraage who has, through his voice, offered an invaluable and timeless contribution to the nation and its people.
"We are also bestowing this honor in memory of Mohamed Thaufeeq due to his beautiful recording of the "Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)'s 'Siyarat'" and his national service in increasing public interest to listen to it." added the President's Office
The National Award of Recognition this year will be conferred to 10 recipients.
Recipients of the National Award of Honors are presented with a shield of honour, a badge of honour and a certificate, while recipients of the National Award of Recognition are presented a commemorative plaque and certificate.
