Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Maldives as his first state trip following his electoral victory in the Indian General Elections of 2019.

Reportedly, Prime Minister Modi will conduct his second official trip to the country in early June. However, the state has yet to make an official announcement concerning the matter.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has congratulated Modi on the electoral win recently secured by the Bharatiya Janaata Party and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Modi first visited Maldives in November 2018 to attend the inauguration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The initial visit was brief as the Prime Minister departed on the night of the inauguration ceremony.

Plans for a state trip to Maldives during the presidency of Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom did not come to fruition.

Modi has asserted that bilateral relations between Maldives and India would improve further during his tenure.
