Parliament passes motion for Nuzuha's appointment at Broadcom

With votes of MDP and Democrats members, Aminath Nuzuha has been appointed for the vacant position at Broadcom.

Parliament has passed the appointment of former TV presenter Aminath Nuzuha for the vacant position at Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom).

The nomination of a member for the commission was determined with the resignation of former commission member Ahmed Gais on January 8th last year. Gais had resigned from his position at the commission in order to free his time for the presidential campaign primaries of the former president, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

The list containing five nominations for the position was proposed to the parliament in February last year.

Following the committee’s inspection, three named were delivered to the parliament floor.

Candidates approved by the Committee

1. Aminath Nuzuha of Haa Alif Hoarafushi, Reward

2. Hussain Amr, V. Roashan

3. Mariyam Nariman Shareef, Gaaf Dhaalu Thinadhoo, Mushthareege

Nuzuha’s appointment was passed with 34 votes of the parliamentarians.

These votes were cast solely by opposing party Maldives Democrats Party (MDP) and The Democrats members. Parliamentarians of the ruling party coalition, People’s National Congress (PNC) and Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) did not participate in this vote.

Nuzuha’s name was at the top of list when the names of nominees were proposed to the parliament by former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Broadcom is currently operating with Mariyam Waheeda as the President while Mohamed Fazeen serves as the Vice President of the commission. The remaining members of the commission are Ali Yoosuf, Shifla Ibrahim, Aminath Ameena and Sofa Shafeeq. All these members were previously engaged with various media agencies.
