Locals of Kolamaafushi island in Gaafu Alifu atoll, located in south of Maldives, have collected multiple pieces of what are believed to be ambergris.

Speaking with local media outlet Mihaaru, council member of Kolamaafushi's Island Council Shaamaa Thakkhaan said that a total of five suspected ambergris were collected from the island today.

She detailed that the first one discovered was big in size, and that people who went to the location where the first one was discovered later found two smaller ones as well. Some time later, two more pieces sized in the mid range were also discovered from the same spot, she said.

"[We're] not sure if they are ambergris. Testing will confirm," she said.

The ambergris weighed two kilograms, and while it is said to be a white ambergris, only testing would confirm whether this is true or not.

Ambergris has been spotted previously in different parts of the country as well. While some were able to make millions by selling their find, others had to discard what they thought was ambergris after testing confirmed otherwise.
