A man asked to stop at a police checkpoint last night was found to be driving a car without a license. Once instructed to stop, he attempted to flee, leading the police to place him under arrest.
The man has been identified as Hassan Saeed, 38, of Sithuraa, Raa atoll Alifushi.
Police said that the car had been driving over the speed limit in Hulhumale' late last night. When stopped, it was discovered that the car was registered to the C Zone and not to the greater Male' area. The driver also did not possess a driving license.
Police then attempted to tow the car as it was registered to the wrong zone, and had been driven by a person without a valid license. They said that Saeed had refused to cooperate.
He refused to get out of the car, locking himself inside, thereby obstructing the police from their duties, Police said. He then tried to flee.
Police are conducting special traffic operations after a young person lost their life in a recent road accident. Among these efforts, Police are intervening when cars are observed to be driving over the speed limit.
