Expat worker who littered Male' City streets to be deported

Male' City Council has found the Bangladeshi expatriate worker residing illegally in the country once notified of his continuous acts of littering the city streets and handed him over to the Police. Efforts to deport him are currently underway.

Male' City Council has found the expatriate worker who has been continuously discarding trash onto the streets of Male' City and handed him over to the Maldives Police Service yesterday.

In a post made on social platform, X, Male' City Council stated that they had found this Bangladeshi man who is residing in the Maldives illegally once his conduct of littering the streets were brought to their attention and has now handed him over to the authorities.

The Council revealed that efforts to deport the man is underway together with Maldives Immigration and the Police.

City Council has circulated videos of people littering the city streets on multiple occasions with the majority of offenders being expatriates. The council had also identified the people in question and imposed fines on them.

The issue of dumping trash on the streets of Male' City had escalated during the month of Ramadan. With the increase in negligent disposal of waste onto various roads and intersections of Male' City which had impeded ease of travel for both pedestrians and drivers alike, Male' City Council had made various efforts to resolve the issue together with the Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO). WAMCO had also offered their waste disposal services free of charge for three days.

WAMCO had further reduced their fees for waste disposal in a bid to address the escalating issue household waste being discarded onto the streets.
