Customs announce revenue increment by 44 percent in June

Maldives Customs Service reports 44 percent increment of import and export revenue in June 2022.

According to the authority, revenues from import and export amounted to MVR 394 million. Additional to this is the MVR 1.4 million in royalties.

Imports inclusive of fuel went up by 78 percent, which translates to MVR 5.2 billion.

Imports exclusive of fuel had also observed a 65 percent increment, at MVR 3.9 billion.

Commodity exports went up by 60 percent in the review month. Maldives exported a total of MVR 247 million worth of export commodities; all fish or fish-related products.

Top importers to the island nation include;

- Oman - MVR 1.1 billion

- India - MVR 636 million

- China - MVR 558 million

- UAE - MVR 435 million

- Malaysia - MVR 428 million

Maldives imported MVR 1.3 billion of fuel, inclusive of petrol and aviation gas; the top import commodity and marine gas oil (diesel).

The second highest import commodity to the country in June was machinery and mechanical appliances at MVR 926 million worth imports.

Maldives exported MVR 140 million worth of frozen skipjack tuna (stripe-bellied bonito), which is the country's top export commodity followed by skipjack tuna prepared or preserved, of which MVR 55 million worth was exported.
