Ministry of Health issued a notice on Wednesday, warning against the import of Himbreen brand's frozen raspberries contaminated with Norovirus.

According to a press release by the Health Ministry, Europe's Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) alerted the authorities that a batch of these raspberries were imported into Maldives.

The ministry stated that work was currently underway to take this product off the market.

As per the latest information, Health Ministry confirmed that the raspberries were distributed among resorts only.

Preventive measures taken by the ministry include inspecting shipments for Himbreen brand's frozen raspberries at the border.

Moreover, the ministry advised importers, distributors and consumers to exercise caution and avoid any raspberries that lack enough information to be ruled out as a contaminated batch.

The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stated that Norovirus is a very contagious virus that causes vomiting and diarrhoea. The virus can infect people of all ages and spreads easily since those infected can shed billions of norovirus particles.

Those seeking further information about the matter can contact the ministry at +960 3014361 during working hours.
