Statistics shared by Maldives Money Authority show that USD 37 million (MVR 570 million) was received as revenue from fish exports in the first four months of this year. Last year, USD 62 million (MVR 956 million) was received in the same period.
Fish export revenue has gone down by 60 percent.

Companies have purchased 28,000 metric tons of fish in the first four months of this year. This is 70 percent less than last year's figures, which was 41,000 metric tons.
The highest sale this year was recorded in January, with 8,700 metric tons sold. The lowest sales were in March with 5,200 metric tons.
A total of 19,000 metric tons of fish were exported in the first four months of this year. This is 55 percent lower than the amount recorded last year, which is 35,000 metric tons.
Canned tuna has also decreased by 60 percent.
Last year, 78,000 metric tons of fish were exported. Ensis Fisheries, which widely exported fish, closed down its business late last year. They shut down their business following the government at the time raising the price of fish to MVR 25 per kilo.
