Police have brought changes to their administrative organizational structure, with a separate department now having been established to deter gang related crimes.

In a statement on their official website, Police have said that these changes will be in effect from tomorrow onwards. Police will also then begin to achieve the goals defined in the five year strategic plan that they recently compiled.

Among these changes is the establishment of a Gang Crime Enforcement Department. Gang related crimes were previously investigated by the Organized Crime Department.

As per the website, the new structure is formed including local policing regions with 17 sections at command/directorate level. This includes a Gang Crime Investigation Command and a Digital Command to build a data driven, modern institute.

Hulhumale' Police has also been separately established, with a view towards expanding policing levels there to the necessary standard. At present, there are police stations in both Hulhumale' Phase 1 and 2. Both of these will now be run under the Hulhumale' Police Command. Police said that alongside the administrative changes that are being set in place, it is crucial to strengthen efforts to combat gang related crimes.
