Parliament Speaker of the Maldives, and former President Mohamed Nasheed is expected to meet with local press on Monday morning, August 15.

According to ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), its founding leader will be meeting with local media correspondents at the main secretariat of the party on Monday morning, at 11 am.

Nasheed arrived in Maldives on Sunday, August 14 after concluding both a personal and official trip.

The Speaker's press meeting comes at a time when his relationship with Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih - a relative and a close political ally - has become sour. The two leaders, in recent times, have been at loggerheads over political ideologies.

Meanwhile, Nasheed had recently lambasted Solih amid the former's brother Nazim Sattar's apprehension. Sattar was arrested by local authorities on suspicion of engaging in same sex activities - which is prohibited according to Maldivian law.

Earlier, leaked video footage of individuals believed to have been Sattar and a Bangladeshi expat, had been rotating across media platforms.

The clash between Nasheed and Solih intensified even more, after the former had accused the latter of adultery. In a recent news, it was reported that Nasheed accused the Maldives President of adultery in a string WhatsApp messages in a public group made among MDP parliamentary group and other senior members.

Nasheed had claimed of acquiring sensitive images that showed proof of Solih engaged in a sexual activities with an unnamed woman. He further inquired from other members in the WhatsApp group whether or not to disclose said sensitive information, or pass it along to local law enforcement authority as evidence.

However, Nasheed's claims were shot down by President's Office that affirmed the allegations made on Solih were false.

Nasheed had also claimed that his phone, that contained the sensitive images, was snatched by a robber while he was visiting UK.

According to Nasheed, he was at a restaurant with his daughter when the incident took place.
