Nabaha and Nabeeha wins bronze at Uganda International Series

Fathimath Nabaha (Naba) and Aminath Nabeeha (Naby) from Maldives Revival Sports won bronze medals at the Uganda International Badminton Series, held last week from Thursday to Sunday in Uganda.

In the women's doubles, they advanced to the quarterfinals after Uganda's pair withdrew, but were later defeated by UAE's Nidhi Desai and Sreeyuktha Sreejith Parol with a scoreline of 14-21, 21-15, and 18-21.

Nabaha also competed in mixed doubles with Zayan Zaki, beating Uganda's David Waiswa and Sarah Namugabo 21-4, 21-1 in the top 16, but losing to Malaysia's Andy Yew Tung Kok and Loh Zhi Wei 21-8, 16-21, 17-21 in the quarterfinals.

In another mixed doubles pairing, Nabeeha and Ahmed Nibal lost to India’s Mohit Jaglan and Lakshita Jaglan 21-19, 15-21, 14-21 in the top 16.

In singles, both Nabaha and Nabeeha reached the quarterfinals. Nabaha triumphed over Uganda's Hanifa Hamza and Verona Sadat Razavipour but fell to India’s Farza Nazrin 18-21, 15-21 in the quarterfinals. Nabiha also showed strong form, defeating Uganda’s Mabel Namakoye and Trisha Rhoda Kyuuka, before losing to Ira Maafta from Azerbaijan in the quarterfinals, 8-21, 14-21.

Zayan Zaki and Ahmed Nibal reached the men's doubles quarterfinals, defeating two Ugandan pairs before falling to India’s Nitin H.V. and Venkata Harsha Vardhan Rayudu Veeramreddy 8-21, 16-21.

Both Zaki and Nibal also participated in men's singles but were eliminated in the top 32. Hassan Zayan Mohamed, competing in the men's singles qualifying round, won his first match but lost in a tight contest in the next round with 21-13, 17-21 and 20-22.
