Maldives requires an additional 700,000 tourists to achieve its tourism goal for the year. So far, the country has already welcomed 1.2 million tourists.

According to statistics released by the ministry of tourism, tourist arrivals in Maldives this year have seen a 14 percent increase compared to the same period last year. By this time last year, the country had received one million tourists.

So far, the biggest market for tourist arrivals this year has been Russia, with a total of 144,00 Russia tourists. Maldives has welcomed over a 100,000 tourists from India and China as well.

Despite the initial state budget for the year forecasting 1.8 million tourist arrivals, president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that there is a possibility of welcoming 1.9 million tourists.

Maldives achieved the milestone of welcoming its one millionth visitor in July this year, marking an earlier accomplishment compared to the previous year when the one millionth visitor arrived in August.

Maldives would need to welcome approximately 180,000 tourists each month for the next four month to achieve this goal. Currently, the nation sees approximately 5,000 tourist arrivals daily. To reach the 2 million arrivals target, this daily number would need to increase to 6,500.
