The owners of vehicles allegedly registered with fake documents have been asked to appear before the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.

In an announcement, the ministry said that 50 four-wheeler registrations seem to be duplicates made with invalid documents, made in violation of the vehicle registration regulation.

Therefore, they have been asked to appear before the ministry during official hours within the next seven days to clarify further details.

The state minister of the ministry, Ali Solih, told Mihaaru News that they will have the opportunity to prove whether the vehicles were registered in accordance with the existing procedure. If they are unable to do so, they will be allowed to register the vehicles in accordance with the regulations, he said.

While a large number of vehicle registrations have raised doubts, the registration of around 200 vehicles has been cancelled for illegal registration. However, when the owners of 87 of these vehicles filed a case in the civil court, the court passed an interim order restraining them from implementing the decision to cancel the registrations.

The case was appealed to the High Court last October, and its hearings have already begun.

Ali Solih said an internal audit of the ministry is being conducted and the registration of questionable vehicles will be cancelled. The registration of such vehicles have not been announced recently due to further investigations into the matter, he said.
