Authorities arrest blackmail suspects tied to expat's nude leaks

Maldives Police Service on Sunday, September 25 confirms arresting at least three individuals suspected with blackmail.

They are suspected of blackmail tied to several video clips and photographs involving a Bangladesh expatriate in homosexual acts with multiple local men. Though local law enforcement claims five suspects in total were arrested on blackmail charges, three out of them had their identities publicly disclosed.

The suspects currently held in remand include one Hamdhoon Abdulla, 37 (Baa atoll Dharavandhoo), Mohamed Mihaad Musthafa, 24 (Baa atoll Dharavandhoo), and Maumoon Moosa, 41 (Shaviyani atoll Funadhoo).

Both Hamdhoon and Mihaad were brought under police remand on Sunday last week, September 18. Hamdhoon was ordered a 15-day remand while Mihaad received 7-days.

Local advocate Maumoon Moosa was arrested previous Tuesday, September 20. He was ordered a 10-day remand by Maldives Criminal Court.

The Bangladesh expatriate, Alamgir was earlier sentenced along with two other convicts tied to the same case. The convictions include local advocate Nazim Sattar, brother of Maldives Parliament speaker Mohamed Nasheed who faced a house arrest, and a local police officer; Abdul Rahman Rafeeu.
