Managing Director of Island Aviation Services, Mohamed Mihad said the construction of a fuel farm at Noonu atoll Maafaru International Airport will be completed before the end of this year.

In an exclusive interview with Mihaaru News, Mihad said the Covid-19 outbreak had halted the company's fuel setup at the Maafaur Airport. The work has since been resumed and once sale of jet fuel begins in Maafaru, it would increase Island Aviation's revenue many times over.

“The revenue will increase when we start providing fuel services to both private jets and other charter flights landing in Maafaru,” he said.

Mihad said the service would be arranged in December of this year.

Maafaru Airport has received a large number of jets during the peak season in recent years.

Maafaru International Airport, built under a grant of USD 60 million by Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) is the largest airport in Maldives after Velana International Airport. It takes approximately 40 minutes to reach Maafaru International Airport from the capital Male'. The airport is about 3,500 meters long and can accommodate A320 and Boeing 737 aircrafts.
