Two sports clubs have officially rebranded and changed their names upon securing positions in the first division of the upcoming football season.
Masodi Sports Club, amidst criticism over its name, has rebranded itself to Odi Sports Club last night.
The club, which has secured a place in the first division of next season, has negative attributions towards it by the public due to its former name, a senior member of the Maldives football scene previously stated.
The rebrand was marked with a special event where the club also unveiled its new logo. The ceremony was attended by key stakeholders such as Ahmed Thoriq who has announced his candidacy to contest as President in the upcoming elections of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM).
As a member of FAM, Odi Sports Club also has a voting seat in the association's general elections.
A second club has also rebranded upon moving up to the first division; The Grande Sports Club, formerly The Grande Amigos New Generation (The Gang).
The negative attributions alluded to may have been due to the shared names with existing gangs in the country, which may have led the public to believe that there are connections between the clubs and perceived criminal elements in society.
