Maldives Police Service has said that 25 operations were carried out in 2022 to stop prostitution, and that 32 arrests were made in connection with these operations.
According to crime statistics published by the police, 14 of these operations were carried out based on the intelligence they collected. The other 11 operations were carried out in coordination with Maldives Immigration.
Among the 32 individuals who were arrested during these operations, six were Maldivians and 26 were foreigners. A total of 28 foreigners were deported last year due to related crimes, including those arrested in previous years as well.
According to the data, the police investigated 11 cases of sex work and human trafficking. Six cases still have active investigations ongoing.
Investigations of two other cases have been completed and sent to the Prosecutor General's Office, while three more cases have been filed.
