National Sports Fund to be established

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has decided to establish the 'National Sports Fund' for the development of sports in the country.

President's Office said that the President decided to form this fund based on deliberations held in the cabinet on a paper submitted by the Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdulla Rafiu,

"The fund aims to increase the number of players and athletes, improve and develop sports, and empower the local sporting community," a statement by the President's Office reads.

The cabinet also decided to bring about the necessary amendments to the Sports Act to empower this fund legally.

At present, sports associations are granted funds annually through being included in the State budget. Relevant international federations also grant assistance to the associations.
