MWSC has commenced a water tank installation process to ensure continued safe water supply.
Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has initiated the installing of a water tank to store 10,000 tonnes of water in Hulhumalé today.
The project, which is being carried out at the MWSC's operation centre in Hulhumalé, was inaugurated by Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muthhalib and MWSC's Managing Director Abdul Matheen Mohamed.
At the inauguration, MWSC's Managing Director Matheen said that this tank would increase the company's water storage capacity up to 80 percent and ensure water safety as well.
"This tank is the biggest water storage tank being installed so far. This tank will store two days' water supply. This is one of the biggest efforts that can be made towards ensuring water security," he said.
He further said that along with this tank, they have also commenced efforts to install a tank in Malé as well. He also added that as part of the efforts to ensure uninterrupted water supply, they have now completed the main transfer pump station's foundation needed to connect the water network between Malé and Hulhumalé, with the project moving at a fast pace.
Matheen went on to say that their biggest priority is to organise uninterrupted safe water supply and to increase their capacity of doing so.
"We have started working on placing an RO plant to increase the water production capacity. Our aim is to overcome obstacles to ensuring water security and provide this service perfectly," he said.
Minister Muthhalib also spoke at the ceremony, highlighting the importance of such a tank.
"Since we produce water from electricity, it is very important to have water stored for a potential unforeseen circumstance. This is an important effort towards ensuring basic services.
This project in Hulhumalé is worth MVR 34 million, and is expected to be completed by this coming February.
