The Elections Commission (EC) has said that digital ID cards will not be accepted for voting in the upcoming presidential election scheduled for September 9.
A tweet by EC's Vice President Ismail Habeeb said that in order to vote, voters will need to present their official documents.
- Up to date ID card
- Up to date Maldivian passport
- Up to date passport card
- Up to date driving license
"One out of four of these physical documents will be required. No other forms of identification will be accepted," said Habeeb.
Habeeb has urged voters to renew the necessary documents if they are out of date.
The government introduced digital ID cards in May, 2023, which can be used for various services such as accessing healthcare services and boarding domestic flights.
