The fee for issuing new ID cards following changes to personal information has been increased by 200 percent.
Previously, the charge for renewing an ID card due to changes in personal information was MVR 50. However, the Department of National Registration issued a notice on Thursday stating that the price has been increased to MVR 150.
The reason for the change was not disclosed.
The government is currently testing the new digital ID cards. The introduction of digital ID cards will eliminate the need to present a physical ID card when accessing services such as Aasandha, where personal identification is required.
Although digital ID cards are being introduced, those who prefer physical ID cards will still be able to use them.
