The government allocated MVR 8 million to establish ice plants in two islands in Maldives from the grant assistance provided by India.

Under this project, two ice plants with a capacity of 25 metric tons will be established in two islands with considerable fishing communities. The project, which also involves training of operations and maintenance staff, aims to minimize post-harvest fish losses and ensure delivery of good quality fish to purchasing companies.

The government of India provided grant assistance of USD 6.9 million (MVR 106 million) during former Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's visit to Maldives in March.

The grant assistance will be utilized to conduct high impact socio-economic development projects across the country. These will be managed by local authorities.
