CEO of the National Drug Agency (NDA), Imad Solih, has been removed from his post.

Imad was appointed on November 1, 2022, after the position had been vacant for over a year.

Originally run by the Ministry of Gender, Family, and Social Services, NDA was transferred to the Ministry of Health in 2022. However, with the change in government, NDA was transferred to the Ministry of Home Affairs in November 2023, now known as the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology.

State Minister and NDA Board Chairperson Lubna Zahir Hussain told Mihaaru News that all members present at the first NDA board meeting on Wednesday unanimously decided to remove Imad from his post. The decision was based on an assessment audit of NDA.

"The decision was based on the assessment audit and after evaluating the work done and not done to maintain the government policy and the speed at which the government wants to progress the work, and due to the delays in drug treatment and many other similar factors," Lubna said.

She cited issues such as pending work, delays in treatment, and the overall slow pace of NDA's activities, which hindered the provision of necessary drug treatment.

The decision aims to expedite treatment opportunities for those in need of drug treatment and facilitate the development of the NDA.

The 19th Parliament also investigated issues related to NDA, established under the Drug Act, not being operated properly. The main responsibility of NDA is to treat and rehabilitate drug users. However, NDA has consistently failed in this regard, according to those seeking treatment and the public.
