Scam messages being sent claiming to be from Post Office

Scam messages claiming they are from the Post Office facing issues in delivering a package due to incorrect addresses are being spread. Acquiring money through fraud and deception has become a rising issue recently with authorities gearing up to resolve it.

A scam is being orchestrated under the name of Maldives Post Limited wherein a message stating that the address for the post has changed and no method of contact is available is being circulated.

Mihaaru News had reportedly acquired a few screenshots of this spam message.

The contents of this message being delivered from Canadian numbers claim that the sender of the message is the Maldives Post Office and state that the ordered package has been received to the warehouse but no method of sending the package is available due to incorrect address details.

A link was sent with the message informing that once the correct information is updated, the package will be delivered within 24 hours.

The message also instructs procedures for updating the address further writing that once the link is opened, the receival of the package will be arranged or the ordered package will be sent back.

Illegally obtaining money through fraud and deception has been increasing over the last couple of months.

Nearly 28,000 cases reporting a total theft of MVR 27 million through fraudulent and deceptive means were lodged to the Maldives Police Service within the span of the end of last year and the start of this year alone.

With State Institutions now aware of the issue as a result of the alarming rise in acts of scam becoming a nation-wide concern, steps to resolve the issue are being proceeded.
