Ensuring food safety is a civil responsibility and something everyone must work together to achieve for the safety of the society as a whole, said First Lady Sajida Mohamed last night.

Speaking at the ceremony to commemorate World Food Safety Day, the First Lady stressed that ensuring the safety of food is not something an agency or institution can achieve alone.

As such, she called on everyone to exercise their civil responsibilities to reach this goal, highlighting that this is something which concerns every single individual in the community.

In her speech, she also stressed the significance of commemorating Food Safety Day in creating more awareness among the public, especially regarding how diseases spread through food. She emphasized the importance of educating the public on the safe storage and use of water and food products, as well as fostering interest in foods that boost the body's immunity.

"Food is the most important resource for human survival and health. It is needed for the development of human life, human intelligence, and general well-being. There should be awareness and interest about this in society," said First Lady Sajida, whose career and educational background is in food safety.

She also pointed out that this year's Food Safety Day theme 'food safety: prepare for the unexpected,' also highlights the connection between health, safety and food.

Additionally, she also pointed out the importance of the food safety bill recently ratified by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
