Baa atoll Goidhoo Island Council has approved the lease of 275,000 square feet of land for tourism development.
The council's announcement stated that the land will be leased for the development of two types of tourist properties, which are;
● Guesthouse development: five plots between 5,000 square feet and 10,000 square feet
● Villa/Service Residences: 200,0000 square feet plot
The council further said that bid books for the project will be available from Sunday, August 20 to Monday, August 28, between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Bid books can be obtained either from the council's office or online.
The council said that bid books for guesthouse development are priced at MVR 5,000, while bid books for villas/service residences cost MVR 15,000. The deadline for submitting bids for these projects is September 11.
Only local investors, 100 percent Maldivian companies, partnerships, or local investments are eligible to bid for guesthouse development. For villa/service residences development, only 100 percent Maldivian companies are eligible to submit bids.
Goidhoo is one of the largest islands in Baa atoll, and its local tourism has experienced a recent boom.
