The government has refuted accusations regarding the alleged destruction of important state documents, as submitted to the police by Mariya Ahmed Didi, the spokesperson of President-Elect Mohamed Ibrahim Solih.

President Office’s spokesperson Ibrahim Muaz Ali stated that no activities have been conducted to destroy key government documents and that all government offices have shredders to destroy documents that end up as trash.

“We advise [people] to refrain from spreading stories to create strife amongst the public,” said the spokesperson.

During the press conference held on Tuesday, Mariya had stated that responsibility must be taken if any government documents were being destroyed.

“These are criminal offences. We urge those committing this crime to refrain from doing so, for it is those that will be held accountable tomorrow. We advise you to refrain from giving into any sort of orders and to withhold the destruction of these documents,” said Mariya.

According to the preliminary results of the presidential election held Sunday, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih who represents the opposition coalition won the election with 58.4 percent the votes.
