The survey required to develop Hithadhoo-Hulhumeedhoo bridge has been included in the 2024 state budget.

The overwater-bridge connecting the islands is an important pledge of President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for Addu atoll.

Ministry of Finance sought President Elect's Office's advise for the following year's budget, and allocated MVR 30 million for the survey.

Connecting Hithadhoo with Hulhumeedhoo was a pledge of former President Abdulla Yameen during his 2018 presidential campaign as well.

Muizzu declared he will realize Yameen's dream during his campaign visit to Addu city in August, making it the first time a mega project was announced outside of Greater Male' region.

The bridge in Addu atoll will also be the largest bridge to be constructed in the Maldives, exceeding the size of the existing Sinamale' Bridge as well.

To connect Hithadhoo with Hulhumeedhoo, the projects requires the development of bridge spanning 13 to 15 kilometers, whereas Sinamale' Bridge is only 1.4 kilometers. Additionally, the completed Thilamale' Bridge will also be shorter than the planned structure in Addu City, at 6.7 kilometers.

The President-elect's biggest pledge is solving the housing issue in the Male' area and pledged development of 64,000 units under his presidency.

To fulfill said pledge, MVR 400 million has been allocated in the 2024 budget to reclaim land in Fushidhiggaru lagoon.
