Prosecutor General's Office has issued a ban on employees taking their phones with them when attending internal meetings during the month of Ramadan, in a bid to promote productivity.
This initiative was announced by Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem in his personal blog. He said that in an attempt to train staff to be without mobile phones when in the work environment, he has banned entry of mobile phones into meetings at the PG office by any staff during Ramadan.
He stated that the purpose in doing so is to urge complete attention is given to matters discussed in the meeting, as well as work that needs to be done, adding that this is important to ensure the public is given a 'luxury service'.
Shameem states that the ban on mobile phones makes it necessary for staff to use the office's official landlines to make required phone calls. In the instance that the internet needs to be accessed, there is the option of using their laptops, computers or similar devices.
Shameem claims that if this initiative is a success, he will extend it to the rest of the year as well.
He also wrote the male employees are given the leniency to not wear neck ties with their official attire during work hours.
Last Ramadan, the PG office decided to have four day work weeks. This year, while they are working through out the five regular official days, employees will be working from home in the last third of Ramadan.
