The Information Commissioner of Maldives Hussain Fiyaz Moosa resigned from the post on Sunday
According to the President's Office, he submitted his resignation in writing to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Fiyaz was appointed on October 31, 2019, by the President, under Article 44 (a) of the Right to Information Act (Law no.: 1/2014).
As per Article 49 of RTI Act, the Information Commissioner may resign from the post by submitting a written resignation to the President, following which the position would become vacant.
The Information Commissioner’s Office was established on July 13, 2014, as per Article 43 (a) of the RTI Act. The information commissioner is mandated with the enforcement of the RTI Act – the law defines the right to access and obtain information in any state institution and encourages the widest circulation of information available at state institutions.
