As the seasonal heat of the warmest days approaches, State Electric Company (STELCO) has obtained two extra generator sets in order to ensure that electricity supply remains uninterrupted during that period.

STELCO said that of the generators planned to brought in ahead of the peak season, two 1.6 Megawatt high speed container generators have been brought in yesterday.

The company said that while work is being conducted to set up these generators now, two more are due to be brought in. With the addition of these four new generators, STELCO is confident that it can produce an additional 6.4 megawatts of electricity.

In a post on social platform X, STELCO Managing Director Hussain Fahmy declared that the company's dedication to its customers and affirmed their aim to continue providing quality services to the citizens.

Fahmy also revealed that work on the large scale power project, "Sixth Power Development", will commence soon.

The current maximum capacity in Greater Male' region is at 122 megawatts. The current usage value also ties with this. Based on this, Fahmy has previously told Mihaaru News that there is a need to increase electricity production by another 100 megawatts.

He said that within the past five years, no additional investments were made in the field, adding that unless the implementation of the 100 megawatt plan is begun now, catering to the electricity demand in 2026 would prove impossible.
