An Indian man has been arrested in connection with a human trafficking case.
The individual arrested was a 20-year-old man named Venkataramana Palla.
He was arrested on Friday from a guesthouse in Henveiru ward of Malé. The Criminal Court has remanded him for 15 days.
According to the arrest warrant, the man is believed to be a fugitive whose case was reported by his sponsor in the Maldives.
The warrant also indicated that he may be involved in a wider criminal operation in the Maldives and abroad that has victimised a lot of people.
The police have not made any official comments regarding the incident, therefore, no further details are available as of yet.
