All land plots in Hulhumale' Phase 2 will be handed over in October: Minister Haidar

Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed has announced today that all the land plots issued from Hulhumale' Phase 2 under the previous government's 'Binveriya' housing scheme will be issued by the end of October.

Speaking in parliament today, the Minister said that 623 land plots out of the total 1,407 issued from Hulhumale' Phase 2 has been issued as of now.

"All land plots issued from Hullhumale' 2 is expected to be issued by the end of October," Haidar said.

Haidar voiced concerns about the manner in which land plots had been allocated by the previous government.

He said that some of the land plots issued in Hulhumale' overlie the streets and land plots where various companies have kept their goods. He went on to question how it can be called land plots when some of the plots are located right on seas and lagoons which have not even been reclaimed so far.

"You can't call what you've given from the seas and lagoons 'land plots'. In fact, it is this government that has to make these into land. So this government will reclaim the required land and issue land plots," Haidar said.

Minister Haidar said the previous administration had issued 699 land plots from Hulhumale' Phase 3, which, in effect, was from the sea as the land had not then been reclaimed.

He criticized this move from the previous administration and said no responsible government would have done such a thing as there is currently no procedure through which parts of a lagoon can be registered as a land plot to individuals.

The 'Binveriya' scheme has also issued 5186 land plots from GiravaruFalhu. Haidar said that the government is working on reclaiming this land, and assured that all recipients, without exception, would be provided land here. However, he was unable to confirm a date of completion for this work.
