A 250 bed multi-specialty hospital is to be built adjacent to Hulhumale' Hospital.
In a press conference held yesterday by the Male' Group of Hospitals, CEO Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem said that even if services are expanded, satisfactory service cannot be provided unless through increasing the number of beds for admitting patients.
As such, the group plans to build a 15 storey new building adjacent to the current 6 storey building being used by the Hulhumale' Hospital. This would be a 250 bed multispecialty hospital.
Even at present, efforts are ongoing to establish an ICU and NICU in the current Hulhumale' Hospital building. The hospital said that both these units will be in use before the end of the year.
The NICU will have 14 beds, with the ICU to have 10 beds.
Haleem said that with the increasing population in Hulhumale', occurrence of accidents have also increased, increasing the load on the Emergency Room. The ER presently only has seven beds. The government has decided to increase ER capacity as well to 14 beds.
In addition to this, four operation theatre complexes will also be completed this year, which will speed up provision of surgeries as well, the group said.
In order to decrease the rising queues at Hulhumale' Hospital, a General Practice Clinic has also been set up in Hulhumale' Phase 2.
