State Trading Organisation (STO) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) at Hulhumalé Hospital.
This department will be responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing the medical equipment and materials used in the hospital.
Under the terms of the agreement, STO will work in partnership with MATACHANA, a manufacturer of sterilisation equipment to design an appropriate setup for the hospital's CSSD department. This collaboration will involve installing the necessary equipment and providing comprehensive training to the hospital staff on its proper usage, said STO.
According to the organisation, all aspects of this project are expected to be completed within a timeframe of 262 days.
CSSD plays a crucial role in ensuring patient safety and effective treatments, particularly in areas like the operating theatre. This department is responsible for maintaining the sterility and proper condition of essential equipment such as gauze, cotton, and dressings used during medical procedures.
The CSSD at IGMH (Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital) also has a fully equipped setup from the 'MATACHANA' brand.
