The eye camp at Hulhumalé Hospital, run by a team of Chinese ophthalmologists, has been extended.
The camp, which is being conducted by doctors from the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center at Sun Yat-sen University in China, was previously scheduled to end on Wednesday, February 15.
The team of eye specialists consists of four doctors and three nurses.
"Two doctors will leave for China next week. The rest of the doctors and nurses will stay back. We have now decided to extend the camp," an official from Hulhumalé Hospital said.
A date for the camp to close has not been finalised, according to the official.
The hospital had earlier tweeted that more than 100 people had been treated during the first two days of the camp. More than 200 people have already registered for treatment at the eye camp.
In addition to examining patients, the team also performs eye surgery. The camp also conducts training for local doctors.
An eye clinic was opened at Hulhumalé Hospital in 2020 under Chinese assistance.
