Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen on Sunday inaugurated a radiology department at Hulhumale' Hospital.

In the inauguration ceremony, the Health Minister noted that considering the current situation of Maldives' health sector, improvement of such services at Hulhumale' Hospital is a priority, adding that with Hulhumale' vast population and the link between the reclaimed suburb to the capital are reasons that further necessitate the improvement of services.

Following the official opening of the radiology department, MRI services are also now available at the medical facility.

However, Nahidha Waheed, spokesperson for hospital operations, revealed that it might take a further 2-3 weeks for mammography and CT-scan services to be made available.

In recent times, complaints alleging that while an estimated 60,000 people live in Hulhumale that modern health care services such as MRI, CT scans, mammography were unavailable at the hospital, have risen significantly.

During former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's administration, a radiology department was established and an MRI machine was introduced to the hospital.

In September 2018, then-Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim made an official visit to the facility during which he informed media that MRI services would commence the following week.

Furthermore, then-Managing Director of Aasandha Company LTD Ahmed Azeem said that prior to the introduction of MRI, CT-scan and mammography, the hospital's employees would receive the necessary training programs.

However, Nahidha revealed that delays in introducing the services were due to some of the training programs not being fulfilled.
