Tourist arrivals to the Maldives have reached 1.46 million as of November 23rd of this year, the Ministry of Tourism reported.
According to the ministry, tourist arrivals by the review date reached a total of 1,456,170. This represents a 29.8 percent increase over the same period in 2021, when arrivals totaled 1,122,245.
Despite the strong number of arrivals this year, it is still 2.8 percent lower than the pre-pandemic numbers of 2019. By the same date in 2019, a total of 1,497,599 tourists had arrived in the Maldives.
Meanwhile, tourist arrivals totaled 11,813 between the beginning of November and the review date. This represents a 2.3 percent increase over the same period last year, when arrivals totaled 109,317, and a 7.5 percent increase over the same period in 2019, when the arrivals were at 103,981.
While the top three main source markets for the Maldives did not change, the bottom five in the list observed some noticeable changes, with an increase in arrivals from the South Korean market. South Korea is the ninth strongest market as of November 23, pushing Switzerland to the bottom spot.
