STELCO transformers vandalized; some parts stolen

STELCO said that some of their transformers in Hulhumale' have been vandalized, with some parts stolen. As a result of this incident, some districts in Hulhumale' experienced power outages.

Some transformers of the State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) in Hulhumale' have been vandalized, with some parts of the transformers also stolen.

In a post on X, Managing Director of STELCO, Hussain Fahmy stated that the company has filed a complaint with the relevant authorities after discovering incidents of breaking and entering into their substations, during which the transformers were switched off, and various parts of them were stolen.

However, Fahmy had not disclosed the location of these vandalized transformers.

He stated that the recent power outage experienced by some districts in Hulhumale' was also due to the theft of transformer parts.

"While this poses a danger to the offenders themselves, it also obstructs the company's efforts to provide uninterrupted 24-hour electricity services," he said.

Fahmy emphasized that they had appealed to the authorities to apprehend those involved in such activities and to take action against them. He also urged authorities to take action against those who purchase stolen parts.

Some towers in Hulhumale' Phase 2 experienced power outages during dawn on Friday, with power being restored in some households after about an hour.
