Hulhumale' Water Theme Park agreement canceled

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has canceled the agreement with Waterfront Hotel and Leisure Company to build a Water Theme Park and a six story leisure hotel in Hulhumale'.

HDC decided to cancel the agreement made on July 2017 and ordered the handover of the property last month, on August 22. The Waterfront Hotel and Leisure Company has since filed a case in the Civil Court and sought an interim stay order against HDC.

The Civil Court ruled on Tuesday that the case poses questions about the duration of the agreement and if an order is issued to stay the implementation of HDC's notice, it will affect the verdict of the case.

The court ruled that Waterfront Hotel and Leisure Company could not prove that it would suffer irreparable damage if the property were to be seized.

Therefore, the court said no order can be issued to stay the implementation of the HDC's decision until the case is resolved.
