Police said that the test results of Adam Athuhar, the individual who held a woman hostage at knife-point last Thursday, is normal and he does not have any health issues.

Athuhar was injured during the police operation to free his partner, who was taken hostage during Thursday night's standoff. He received treatment at ADK Hospital and was released yesterday.

Police took him into custody then, but had to re-hospitalize him last night to further monitor his condition when he began vomiting. Police then took him to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.

He was discharged this morning after being admitted at IGMH's Observation Room to monitor his condition further, Police said.

In response to claims that Athuhar had suffered a seizure and was in serious condition, police stated today that medical tests and CT scans conducted following consultations with doctors were normal.

He was also examined by a neurologist and a psychiatrist to assess his condition, and both doctors reported that he had no issues, according to police.

"So far, no doctor has recommended that he be treated in an intensive care unit. None of the doctors have noted that he had a seizure in their reports," police said.

Athuhar, of Happy Land in Shaviyani atoll Milandhoo, held his partner hostage at knifepoint, threatening to kill her. He forced her to ride away with him on a motorcycle, at which point police intervened.

Police had to use force to subdue him and hit him repeatedly with batons, due to which he received significant injuries.

As the motorcycle came to a stop, a police officer approached the couple from behind and struck Athuhar over the head with a baton in an attempt to rescue the woman. In retaliation, Athuhar attempted to slash the woman’s throat. However, reports indicate that the woman was later treated at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital and was not seriously injured in the assault.

Athuhar has been remanded to judicial custody in connection with the case pending trial. According to the police, the court ordered his remand in absentia.
