Government launched 21 housing projects since 2019 out of which six have been completed so far--

Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (MNPHI) has revealed that out of the 21 housing projects initiated nationwide by the current administration, six have been completed so far.

Mihaaru News obtained the information under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, which revealed a total of 21 housing initiatives were launched since 2019, the collective total of the projects amount to MVR 1.9 billion.

The largest housing project in an atoll outside of the Malé region is executed in Haa Dhaalu atoll Kulhudhuffushi. Government launched a 400-housing-unit project at a cost of MVR 440 million in the northern-most city earlier in July 2022.

The second largest initiative is underway in Gaafu Dhaalu atoll Thinadhoo. A housing project involving 200 units, with a total project cost of MVR 254 million, was launched in the southern city.

The government has successfully completed development of 105 housing units in Kulhudhuffushi and another 100 units in Lhaviyani atoll Naifaru and Olhuvelifushi, Baa atoll Thulhaadhoo, Thaa atoll Thimarafushi and Haa Alifu atoll Nolhivaranfaru so far.

The government awarded the highest number of housing development projects to Dhonbeyz Private Limited. The company, owned by North-Fuvahmulah MP Mohamed Rasheed, secured contracts for six projects.

RCC and SJ Construction were awarded the second-highest number of housing projects, with each company securing contracts for five projects.

As of now, housing development projects in Thaa atoll Vilufushi has reached 66 percent completion, while the initiative in Haa Alifu atoll Dhidhdhoo reached 39 percent completion.

The housing project in Gaafu Alifu atoll Vilingili has progressed 28 percent while the 14 remaining initiatives are overall below 20 percent completion.

Besides the completed and ongoing housing projects, five additional projects are under various stages of technical evaluation and tendering.
