Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure revealed Thursday that the government awarded development projects worth MVR 2.6 billion by the end of August this year.

Speaking at a press briefing, Director General Anwar Ali of the ministry's Programme and Project Department rebutted criticism that the current administration was not carrying out projects adequately.

He highlighted that several government institutions, including Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, and Ministry of Environment, were carrying out relevant projects.

According to the planning ministry, the environment ministry awarded the most number of projects by August 25. The projects, including coastal protection, are estimated to cost more than MVR 283 million.

The environment ministry was followed by Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, which awarded projects worth MVR 261 million.

Director General Anwar Ali assured that the government planned to carry out more development projects in the following year as well, which would be included in the State Budget 2020.
