IGMH has started using its emergency room to treat children that require to be admitted, as there are no more available beds in their Pediatric Ward.

Pediatric Doctor at IGMH. Dr. Ahmed Faisal said in a tweet on Wednesday evening that the hospital’s 32 bed pediatric ward was currently full. He said they were currently utilizing their emergency room to keep children admitted.

He noted this problem would only be solved if appropriate care was available in other state health centers as well.

The pediatric ward was filled as children requiring health care for various needs were receiving treatment. There has not been an uptake in cases of any kind amongst children.

IGMH is the only state run hospital in Male’ that provides 100 percent coverage from Maldives’ universal healthcare provider, Aasandha. Even though there are pediatric doctors in the state run Hulhumale’ Hospital, it lacks super-specialists. This results in a higher demand for IGMH.
