Private entities have been given the opportunity to develop and operate rehabilitation centers for the treatment of drug addicts.
As per the provisions outlined in the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the National Drug Agency (NDA) possesses the authority to grant permission to private individuals who express an interest in establishing and managing drug treatment centers.
Services to be provided by drug rehabilitation centers:
- Provide outpatient detoxification services - Conduct psychiatric evaluation - Provide counseling services - Drug testing - Provide psycho-social therapy services - Conduct psychological assessment
The NDA has asked interested candidates to submit their registration forms by January 21. While the information session will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, the proposal submission will take place on January 22.
The most recent statistics published by the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology stated that 700 patients mandated for treatment by a drug court are yet to receive the required treatment. The NDA has assured that it can complete their treatment within the upcoming four months.
