Thursday witnessed a high demand for domestic flights in the Maldives as residents of Malé traveled to their respective islands for the combined school holidays and Eid Al-Adha.

Maldivian, the national airline of Maldives, announced that they have scheduled 50 domestic flights on Thursday, and a total of 56 flights are scheduled for today.

In addition to Maldivian, Manta Airlines also scheduled 10 domestic flights on Thursday, while Villa Airlines had an additional 10 domestic flights scheduled. A total number of 70 domestic flights had been scheduled for Thursday.

This is a significant increase compared to the usual number of daily flights, which typically range between 20-30.

Due to the increase of travelers heading to the islands, there is high demand for speed-boats as well, leading to a crowded port area near the running track and MPL Jetty in Malé.

Eid Al-Adha falls on Wednesday, June 28, prompting the government to declare holidays starting June 23 until July 1. In addition, schools have closed on Thursday for the end of the year holidays, with classes set to resume on August 6.
